For anyone looking for an enjoyable day of golf, elleair Maui Golf Club really delivers. Magnificent ocean views to the West contrast with the surreal volcanic protrusion of Haleakula to the East. Course conditions are always topnotch and the golf experience is first-rate. In fact, elleair is not only a terrific alternative to the high-priced resort layouts, but it compliments them to the hilt. The course meanders through the lower foothills of Haleakula behind the Town of Kihei. A delightful array of straight and legging holes bond with gentle elevation changes and a few lakes and ponds. Wind impacts play at elleair, as it does at most Hawaii golf courses. With no wind, pars and even birdies will be carded. With some wind, shotmaking skills and concentration are at a premium. In the past few years, the back nine has undergone a transformation due to homes being built in its midst. Subtle changes were made to several of the holes and each one has been improved. A tip of the cap to all concerned from grateful golfers and this scribe.
