The slightly upscale image that's been carefully crafted in travel annals IS what you'll find when you arrive on the second largest Hawaiian Island. Those who live there say: Maui no ka oi—Maui is the best. Those who visit will be transfixed by the beaches, a majestic volcano and divine cuisine.
The "Valley Isle" is actually two islands created by two volcanoes and connected by a fertile isthmus. West Maui, formed by the Pu’u Kukui volcano, is remarkably different from the South side. South Maui is set at the base of the world's largest dormant (not extinct) volcano, Haleakala ("House of the Sun"), which reaches over 10,000 feet to the sky.

For many years, the Makena Resort offered 36 holes of Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf. In 2008, the South Course closed, ostensibly to be privatized. As luck would have it, the North Course, which we now call the Maui Prince Golf Club at Makena (aka Makena North & Makena Golf Club), remains open for play to all comers. For our money, this has always been one of the best courses in Hawaii, with views to match. Playing it once is just not enough. Trust us, you could play this course 3-4 times on a Maui golf adventure and find something new, exciting and eye-popping every time. Bring your best game and your camera!
Elleair Maui Golf Clubis located above Kihei off the Piilani Highway. By combining magnificent ocean views from the base of the Haleakala Volcano, with a fair, un-trickedup layout, Elleair delivers a delightful option to those unfamiliar with non-resort golf. In addition to brand new carts and several improvements made to the back nine, new Head PGA professional Eliot Gouveia adds his delightful countenance to the entire experience. Golf on Maui's south side is not complete without visiting the original and classic course at Wailea, now monikered Wailea Old Blue Golf Club,located at the gateway to Wailea. Under new ownership and management, there are so many things in store for this venerable layout, that it should make golfers excited for years to come. In addition to bringing over Hawaii's best superintendent, Steve Olsen, to massage the already stellar course conditions, there are plans for a new clubhouse and practice facility, with a rerouting of the course back to its original flow to follow. Like our other PREPAID GOLF on MAUI options, once is not nearly enough at Wailea Old Blue.
Waiehu Municipal GC is clearly one of the top-two municipal courses in the state (with Kauai's Wailua). Its stunning oceanfront location for Holes 5-8 and a back nine in the bluffs resplendent with gentle doglegs and ocean views makes it a worthwhile and enjoyable golf experience on non-holiday weekdays. That being said, don't expect anything near the conditioning of our PREPAID GOLF on MAUI offerings, or even Kauai's Wailua.
