DAVE MILLS created Golfer's Guide to So. California in 1992. It was a comprehensive examination of Southern California golf courses. Following the devastation inflicted on Kauai by Hurricane Iniki in September 1992, Mills devoted three issues to the "Garden Island" and its golf assets. The success of the effort to stimulate Kauai's golf economy eventually led to changing the name of the publication to Golfer's Guide to So. California & Hawaii and the development of golf value programs on the four major Hawaiian Islands. In 1995, Golfer's Guide subscribers also became GG POWERCARD holders, who often save hundreds of dollars or more on their Hawaii golf vacations. By 1998, Golfer's Guide to Hawaii & the Pacific was exclusively directing golfers to Hawaii. That same year, an affiliated Travel Service, now known as the Hawaii Golf Vacation Service, began as a direct result of demand from GG subscribers. Further enhancement came in late 1998 with the premier of Hawaii's largest and most successful golf website—HawaiiGolfDeals.com.
Mills, who in addition to contributing to HawaiiGolfDeals.com, has also written on golf and golf travel for publications such as GOLF Magazine, Los Angeles Magazine, FORE, NCGA Golf, Hawaiian Airlines and Fairways & Greens Magazine. For four years, he was the voice of golf on several Los Angeles radio stations and hosted "Golfer's Guide On-the-Air," the nation's first and only weekday drive-time golf talk show—often hosting from locations around the Hawaiian Islands.
